Jan 29, 2020 Detailed information about the Short Deck (6+) NLH (8-handed) poker tournament at the Los Angeles Poker Classic on Jan 29, 2020 in Los Angeles, CA. Attention Poker Rooms: Get your Real-Time Live Action on PokerAtlas! Jan 05, 2021 Short Deck Hold’em – also known as Six Plus (6+) Hold’em – is No-Limit Hold’em played with a stripped-down deck. All of the deuces to fives are removed to make the total deck just 36 cards. That means some pretty big changes to the poker hand rankings, game dynamics and to standard Texas Holdem strategy.

  • The defining difference between Short Deck and other Holdem variants is the removal of the 5s,4s,3s and 2s from the deck, hence the name ‘Short Deck’. This serves to increase the probability of making many hands that No Limit Hold’em players are used to thinking of as ‘strong’, such as straights and full houses.
  • Short-Deck Poker (Sixplus Hold’em) Originated in 2014 from the high-stakes live poker scene in Asia, Short Deck was promoted soon after by poker icons Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan, introducing the game to the masses. The newly evolved game was a smashing hit in cash games around the region with its draw-heavy action and overall, better starting hands.
  • Currently a short deck specialist and #1 on the Vietnam all-time money list, Thai Ha is especially passionate about helping the Vietnamese poker community grow. Thai Ha's first break came in 2016 when he emerged as champion of the WPT Deepstacks $350 NLH event for $230,422.

Another Chance for Chance

Deck

A day after playing three hands at the $50,000 NLH High Roller final table, Chance Kornuth gets another shot at World Series of Poker gold. Kornuth bagged the $10,000 Short Deck No Limit Hold’em chip lead and he’ll be in pole position when play resumes at 6 PM ET. Seven players remain, including high stakes cash game professional Andrew Robl.

Robl only makes a handful of World Series appearances each year, but he was never likely to miss this one. The former online sensation is widely regarded as one of the best Short Deck players on earth. If Robl can play his best game today, with some luck on his side, he could walk away with his first WSOP bracelet.

More Than $13 Million

If you experienced the first Colossus at the World Series of Poker in 2015, you’d think the 22,000 record-breaking player mark would have stood for a long time. The Rio was packed and massive payouts were up for grabs for a microscopic buy-in.

Apparently, the WSOP wanted to break that record a few years later. After yesterday’s flights and some calculations, the $500 buy-in Big 50 NLH event total came in just over 24,000 players. That means an over $13,000,000 prize pool is up for grabs, with $1 million guaranteed for the winner. The Big 50 final table will stream live on Friday.

With most players on their way home already or playing the $50K Guarantee at 1:00 PM, there was a nice value in the 13th event on the BPO Schedule for those looking for a more adventurous format. The game was “Short Deck Hold’em”. All cards under a 6 are removed from the deck and all players post the small blind, with the dealer posting the big blind.

There was a three way equity chop when the players got three handed. Amongst the top 3 players was Bar Poker Open’s own, Glenn McCrory. In the photo is also top chip-stack, Jake Dennehy, from Eastern Poker Tour!
